Virtualization in the EnterpriseThe ability to run multiple operating systems (OSs) is of great interest in our design environment where highly specialized tools are tied closely to OS versions. The ability to checkpoint, suspend, resume, and migrate VMs is very useful when we run long simulations. The ability to allocate VMs at the location of choice opens up other possible use cases, such as network monitoring, security monitoring, and content distribution.

A Case Study of Server Virtualization Using VMwareThis paper examines the virtualization of physical host machines, enterprise services, and multi-site instantiation of virtual environments. First, we introduce the difficulty of virtualizing enterprise service host machine. Second, we discuss use cases that can give IT organizations many new options in supporting their company's business units. Third, we review a case study of server virtualization for a business group at Intel and the process they followed from project inception through implementation. |
Bank Scores with Server VirtualizationThey say old habits die hard. It's a adage that's certainly true for ICICI Bank's senior GM and the Group CTO, Pravir Vohra. As a man who was part of the team that popularized online banking and helped create a new revenue stream for ICICI Bank, Vohra is already known as an IT leader who can make a difference. He's also celebrated as a CIO who not only leverages new concepts and technologies to create -mover advantages for his organization, but also adopts solutions at such an unprecedented rate and scale that it advances his bank beyond the reach of its peers. |
Five Tips: Make Virtualization Work Better Across the WANIT departments can reap enormous benefits from virtualizing applications and implementing Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI). However, the management and cost savings of virtualization can be lost if performance is so bad that it hampers productivity, as can happen when virtual applications and desktops are delivered across a Wide Area Network (WAN).
